A steel magnate gets blackmailed by Philly Boy Roy.
I’ve reviewed this before but I’m reviewing it again because it’s so great. “52 Pick-Up” is a pillar of sleaze, a paragon of crime, and chock full of banana hammock style.
Based on an Elmore Leonard novel and starring Roy “We Probably Need A Boat that’s Bigger” Scheider, Ann “Baked Beans” Margret and with incredible performances from John “My Philly Accent Will Destroy You” Glover and especially Robert “Xena: Warrior Princess” Trebor, the trash signature of the GOLAN/GLOBUS title card shouldn’t scare you away.
This is top-shelf film-making, the crime film that Tarantino wishes he could make.
Gary Chang’s synth score is a dread masterwork, and the action travels from the L.A. porno underworld to classy political events to NASA desert explosions. It’s a very dark tale of vengeance and survival that also has Vanity coddling a giant white teddy bear!
Check it out if you are into sex parties, unnecessary eye patches, or blowing it all up.
