Erewhon, and Other Strange Utopias

The subjects of Roger Leege's digitally manipulated photographs are by turns surreal, uncanny, and rather gorgeous. They inhabit strange utopias that exist in juxtaposition to our shared, seemingly mundane reality.

Winner of the CliFiCon22 Utopia Award for Utopian Art.

Artist statement:

“I believe that, in the best art work, regardless of artist, medium, or subject, there is a coherent, surprising, intensifying, and inseparable mixture of ‘speech’ (technical craft) and ‘story’ (creative dialog with an audience). The mix of sense and skill is essential. I’m with Paul Klee, who said, ‘One eye sees; the other feels.’ Or, put another way by Anäis Nin, ‘We don’t see things as they are; we see them as we are.'”
