The art of Ukrainian painter Oksana Reznik depicts both our sentimentalization of nature, and our alienation from it. In “My Dear Deer,” Reznik’s images of wild animals in formally surreal and modernist settings can be viewed as a critique of reductionist attitudes around ecology. They’re also generous reminders of nature’s inevitable eruptions and incursions into our manufactured, mediated, deeply technological existence.
