Opportunity for Black speculative-fiction authors

Here’s an interesting writing opportunity and prompt for Black speculative-fiction authors coming from NaBeela Washington, founder and editor of Lucky Jefferson Magazine — a beautifully illustrated and well-curated digital ‘zine that regularly runs theme issues.

Lucky Jefferson‘s digital zine Awake seeks to amplify the experiences and perspectives of Black writers in American society.

Odyssey, Issue 4 of our Black digital zine Awake, explores what happens after a Black captain plummets kilometers off course and is discovered by inhabitants of a new planet. Submitters will decide if they return home or begin a new life.

We’re seeking poems, essays, flash fiction, hybrid forms, and art (especially art that offers social commentary on representation in sci-fi literature).

Accepted authors receive $15 for each accepted work.
The deadline is Nov. 7 but we may extend to Nov. 30.

Interested writers can get started here: https://bit.ly/AwakeZine or visit luckyjefferson.com to get acquainted with who we are.
