Paid editorial internship for issue-focused news aggregator

The Daylighter (, has an immediate opportunity for a paid Fall 2019 Editorial Intern to support the editing, digital production and online publication of several aggregated news briefs each weekday.

About us: The Daylighter covers important but overlooked news about baseline issues of sustainability, human rights and democracy around the world.

About the job: The Fall 2019 Editorial Intern will do the frontline editing and production on up to 11 news briefs provided each week by our issues editor. Tasks include: Fact-checking, sourcing, style editing, proofing, selecting photos and/or visual media, proposing headlines, and setting up pre-publication briefs in WordPress for supervisor review.

Additional opportunities: Beyond the essential work of editing and production, there is also an opportunity to develop bylines, depending on the intern’s goals and interests. 

Time commitment: 5-8 hours per week; a talented and efficacious intern could polish off the weekly editing and production tasks in an afternoon. Flexibility is possible, depending on the intern’s goals.

Location: Work location is flexible, with regular meetings in person or via video conference. 

Pay: $100 per week; additionally, we are glad to provide academic credit.

Required skills and experience:

Editing for structure and style
Fact-checking and sourcing
Writing headlines and blurbs 
Digital production and publishing basics (WordPress, photo search and prepping)

Are presently enrolled in a journalism school or taking related coursework
Have newsroom or digital-publishing experience of any sort; school publications count
Speak a second language
Live in the San Francisco Bay Area (but really, location is no obstacle)
Are idealistic about journalism and its service to democracy
