Advertisements titillate our taste buds with moist, succulent food porn — but what’s really in that burger?
Somewhere between a punk-rock Harvey Kurtzman and R. Crumb guesting on “Top Chef” are Craig Latchaw’s gleefully gross gourmet recipes, fully seasoned with all the farmworker abuses, assembly-line injuries, product impurities, and accumulated factory filth that a capitalist food industry can churn out.
Under the influence of 90’s cartoons and culture, Youngstown, Ohio-based artist Craig Latchaw Jr., focuses on illustration, comics, and all things “gross and slimy.” Latchaw is also a painting instructor, a trivia-night host, and maintains a lively set of social-media channels covering comics, comedy and entertainment. “These illustrations are meant to gross out the viewer and make one realize that most of what we put in our bodies is garbage,” he says, and were featured at the SOAP Gallery in Youngstown.
